Situated on more than 700 acres of lush pine and cypress trees, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is a picturesque haven of natural beauty. Time slows to a pleasant crawl as Guests wander quiet trails and enjoy the rugged charm of log-façade buildings like the Meadow Trading Post and Pioneer Hall. Water canals snake through the cabins, campsites and common areas, adding to the sense of being far from the bustle of modern civilization—as do the roaming ducks, deer and rabbits.

Among the original accommodations within Walt Disney World Resort, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort opened in November 1971, and its quaint, idyllic American Frontier theme continues to enchant scores of Guests year after year.

Campsite Options

After checking in at a drive-up Reception Outpost kiosk, Guests can drive to the many loops containing 799 campsites. Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort offers 4 different types of campsites :

  • Tent/Pop-Up Campsite
  • Full Hook-Up Campsite
  • Preferred Hook-Up Campsite
  • Premium Campsite

Campsites range from 25 to 65 feet in length and differ in amenities; each has a maximum occupancy of 10 Guests. All include privacy, water, cable television and electrical hook-ups, a picnic table and a charcoal grill. High-speed internet access is available for an additional charge. With the exception of Tent/Pop-up Campsites, all locations also include sewer hook-up. Groups of 20 or more may reserve the tents-only Creekside Meadow campsite.

Air-conditioned Comfort Stations throughout the campsite loops feature private toilets and showers, laundry facilities, telephones and ice machines.

If you have a favorite location, please note that several campsite loops are being overhauled and upgraded throughout 2009.

Pets

Since pets like to go on vacation too, pet-friendly campsites are available. Pets are not permitted in tents or vehicles without air-conditioning.

Campsite Guests with pet privileges may take their dogs to play in the off-leash Waggin' Trails Dog Park, enjoy a variety of on-leash pet walks or treat them to day or overnight kennel care while their humans visit the Theme Parks, Water Parks or other destinations throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

At the north end of the Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort lies scenic Bay Lake and the Settlement Area. The Fort Wilderness Pavilion hosts the seasonal Mickey's Backyard BBQ , a festive Character Dining hoedown featuring live music and dancing. At Tri-Circle-D Ranch, Guests can see a blacksmith affix horseshoes to the horses that pull the trolleys on Main Street, U.S.A.—and also take carriage, wagon and horseback rides around the wilderness. Small children can enjoy pony rides. At the marina, Guests can rent a variety of watercraft like SeaRaycers and pontoon boats or book a catch-and-release fishing expedition.

Across from the ranch is Pioneer Hall, home to Trail's End Restaurant and Crockett's Tavern—and the very popular dinner show Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue . Nearby, the Settlement Trading Post sells basic groceries, some camping supplies and souvenirs.

Meadow Recreation Area lies in the center of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, where the Meadow Trading Post offers similar items and a deli, and the outdoor theater is home to the nightly Chip 'n' Dale "Sing-a-Long"—with a marshmallow roast—followed by a screening of a classic Disney movie. At the Bike Barn, bicycles can be rented for exploring the Resort's seemingly untamed scenery. Other diversions abound as well: trails, tennis, volleyball, swimming, horseshoes, shuffleboard and archery.

Dining at the Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort includes 1 restaurant, 2 dinner shows and snack bars—all serving American food. Restaurant meals range from under $15 to $60 per person, based on average Guest check, not including alcohol, tax and tip.
